Happy Halloween!

Hey guys! We’re not dead! Sorry for the major lacks of posts and updates but we’ve been pretty busy working on some more original stuff. I’m going to try to get back on track with blogging, but also going to be working on some more original posts. The new posts will have a lot of original good stuff so stay tuned and bare with us!

Also in terms of apparel and our products, help spread the word about the brand! We need some more funding for the products! But we’re always working on new things! :)

I’m also going to using the blog as a place to post things that I’m working on so hopefully you guys enjoy that. This is one of the things that I’ve been working on and it was something I did for fun in celebration of my favorite holiday, Halloween. Just something quick I made over the weekend after wanting to play around with film composition and horror tones. I hope you enjoy!

Jungle Tags and Ish.

I absolutely love detailed tagging like this. Its absolutely amazing. French artists, Tyrsa and Franck Pellegrino, came together for something called “Welcome to the Jungle“, which is a celebration of both graffiti art and the streets in which they are often displayed. The piece that they created together is truly amazing, featuring details such as tribal etching, high contrast, beautiful colors, and amazing typography. Watching this video makes me really want to try painting like this but I don’t think my hand is steady enough. Ugh, I need to get off the computer and be hands-on again.

Blood and Gaga.

So Lady Gaga came out with a fragrance called Fame. The smell is based on blood and semen, supposedly. As gross as that sounds and even though I have no idea what it actually smells like, I think this is great. Lady Gaga also released a five-minute short film to promote this black liquid perfume and its pretty amazing. The dark, twisted, and psychedelic short film a lot of elements that you would expect from Gaga but its executed in a fantastic way. This is dope. This is, kind of, beautiful. This is that shit I do like.

The film debuted on September 13th during a masquerade ball at New York’s Guggenheim Museum.

Hand-Drawn Type.

Designer and artist, Jon Contino, is a master at hand-drawn type. He is one of the great creatives who really know exactly where they want to go, want to do, and aren’t afraid of what they need to get there. His work ethic is amazing, and I really need to step mine up. I’m here blogging half awake because of food coma and not lack of sleep (although I have that too), contemplating whether I want to blog or lay down and watch TV. He says that “as many hours as I can stay awake, is as many that I’ll work”. I envy that work ethic and need to get there. Soon.

In this film by Kevin Steen, you really get a feel for Jon Contino both as an artist/designer and a person. He’s amazing with a pen and paper and effortlessly creates beautiful typography. I love typography. I need to start drawing more. Ugh.

Los Angeles Screen Printers.

If you’ve ever wondered how t-shirts are made or more specifically, how screen printing works, the good people over at Thrash Lab have made a video for you guys! The medium of screen-printing has always been a go-to for brands and creatives within both the fashion and communication industries. The (relative) ease and accessibility to the materials and such have been super appealing to a lot of creatives. I use a local screen printer in downtown Los Angeles for all my shirts. The video showcases a few of Los Angeles’s most influential and well-known screen printers as they show what really goes on behind the scenes. I really want to learn to screen print myself. It would be so fun. Ugh.

Farmers Insurance.

I’ve always been a bit of a fan of RiFF RaFF. I knew I recognized Dirty Nasty, and with some research, found out he’s actor, Simon Rex. And Andy Milonakis, well, he let Based God fuck his bitch.

With their powers combined, they have become the hip-hop trio known as Three Loco. The group is under Diplo‘s MAD DECENT label and just dropped one of their first music videos. The video and song for We Are Farmers is absolutely amazing, using a sample from the Farmers Insurance theme song, which is absolute genius. The song also features some rhymes from Diplo, which I have yet to see until now. Three Loco is currently working on an EP set to be released via MAD DECENT on September 4. They will also be performing live at the MAD DECENT Block Party which is going to be in Los Angeles on August 25. I’m pretty excited.

Happy Birthday Webhead.

Happy birthday Spider-Man! This month marks the 50th birthday of my favorite superhero, Spider-Man. Marvel has planned a few events for the celebration of the world’s favorite webhead, which included the release of this year’s The Amazing Spider-Man in theatres. The celebration also includes some incredible variant covers for this month’s issues and also a special new story arc in The Amazing Spider-Man comics. After looking at a few of these variant covers, I definitely need to get my hands on a few of them if I can.

Spider-Man first appeared to the world in Amazing Fantasy #15, which came out in August of 1962. The popularity of the brand-new character was so great that less than a year later, he got his own series and ever since, he has been one of the most well-known superheroes. On August 22, The Amazing Spider-Man will mark its official 50th year with issue #692.

The 50th year anniversary will also mark something that has never happened before to Spider-Man. He’s joining his fellow superheroes from all universes such as Batman, Captain America, and (mostly) other DC superheroes. He’s getting a kid sidekick. In the upcoming issues, the webslinger will meet a teenager named Andy Maguire (whose names are a combination of the actors who’ve played Spider-Man on screen), who gains superpowers and takes on the superhero monicker of Alpha. I’m not quite sure how I feel about this, but it might be good. I’ve never been a fan of sidekicks overall, but DC has always made great use of them in terms of both character development and plot. This may be just a temporary thing or something longterm, but I guess we just gotta read and see! Happy birthday again Spidey!

Borders of Infinity.

Louis Vuitton brings us a short film by director KT Auleta that pays homage to Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Room and its concept of self-obliteration. This idea of getting lost within a sea of ourselves and, in this case, being dots or lights is interesting. An excerpt from the Louis Vuitton website says this:

Infinity can be made up of a cloud of hypnotic dots; it is also a prism through which Art is reflected. Literature, photography or painting, each have made it a previous leitmotiv through time. While we attempt to understand artists fascinated by abstraction and void, or whether we just feel the immensity of space, infinity continues to be tinged with electric anxiety. It reduces us to the tiny circle of our humanity; a dot among others in the universe.

A little too much thinking for this time of the day, but interesting nonetheless. Also, the short is beautiful. Louis Vuitton’s art/design department never ceases to amaze me. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a window display that I didn’t fall in love with instantly.

I’ve always enjoyed artist collective, FriendsWithYou, which is comprised of Samuel Borkson and Arturo Sandoval III. The group has made their first animated short in the form of something simply called “Cloudy“. The short features the same aesthetic and art direction as the rest of their work, showcasing playful characters/creatures and bright colors. The animated short was produced alongside Matias Fernandez and accompanied by music from Norman Bambi. If you enjoy this short, you should definitely check out some of their other work, which ranges from vinyl toys to art exhibits to projections on downtown skyscrapers.

Middle-Line Toxins.

As terrible as the event was, the 2010 toxic waste spill in western Hungary created a visual landscape that is truly beautiful in a way. The event was considered the biggest in Hungarian history, where around 1 million cubic meters of alumina sludge was released over the area after a retaining wall in one of the reservoirs, used for accumulating byproducts of the aluminum company, burst. Spanish photographer, Palíndromo Mészáros, created a photography series appropriately called “the line“, which captures the aftermath of that event. The simplicity of the waste leaving that perfect line of stain on the town is amazing. Its kind of amazing how even in a terrible event as this, you can find beauty in it.
